HRT Training - November 8, 2014
Saturday was another exciting day spent with the members of the Snohomish County Helicopter Rescue Team, part of the Snohomish County Sheriff's Air Operations division. For this flight we had two new flight medics and three rescue technicians going through hoist operations. As is the case with every training mission, the team goes through a thorough rehearsal, making sure everyone understand procedures, radio calls, etc. As my first instructor told me, the cockpit is NOT a classroom. Procedures are introduced and learned on the ground, then applied in the air. Same goes with SAR procedures. If they don't practice it on the ground with the engines off then they won't do it in the air during the actual training mission.
This rehearsal time is a great opportunity for all members to see what takes place and share advice to help keep operations safe and efficient.
